Parco Dora Color
I liked the contrast between the dystopian feel of this place (the shell of an old factory) and the colors. The people seem a mix of normal and active (the ones playing basketball) andthe guy in the relative foreground, who looks almost like a zombie.

Fishing in the Po
Made on film. I like making photos of people doing relatively normal things. Here, the guy fishing stands out from the others just walking along the river. This is right near my apartment so i see this in all types of light. But I love making photos in diffuse, overcast conditions.

Walking dog in the rain
The woman walking her dog--red umbrella, green surroundings, dog uncovered--would have been enough for me. But the added gift of what looks to me like a Carravaggio painting looking at her made this a no-brainer, if a little cliche.

Dog walking on via Garibaldi
A favorite spot for my street photos is this particular bar (coffee shop). I set my camera on the table (tethered to me by way of a long wrist strap) and use the camera's phone app to control the shutter. These dogs were walking nicely until the one on the left saw a pigeon.

Waiting for the bus
I liked the way there are 3 separate worlds here, all next to each other in both space and time. The expression on the woman's face is a real story-starter! To be honest, I don't think i saw her face until the image was on the computer.

On the stairs of the Duomo
I liked the contrast in the people--facing different directions. Also, the weird pose of the guy versus the relatively normal pose of the woman.

Reading the paper near the bar
The visual here just grabbed me. Good story material. What I saw was this guy taking the newspaper off of the table next to him and then sit on the concrete barrier--so he didn't need to buy a coffee. 🙂 I'm pretty far away here--using an old Canon 135mm L adapted for the Sony. I like photographing people being people.

Coffee delivery
While I usually use a 23mm set at f/8.0, focus set to infinity, this was with the the 135mm L set at f/2.0. I like using this lens, but everyone within 10 meters stares at it. So, not so stealthy. But, again, I like scenes of everyday life--the choreography of people in the city.

Waiting at Porta Susa
A favorite spot to make photos. Here I was just experimenting with motion. The main like for me here is the disapproving look the older woman is giving me. I don't generally want people to notice that I'm making a photo with them in it, but in this case it could be seen as her reaction to the three younger people who look a but unsure of what they are doing.

Porta Susa worker
This guy is gesturing to a coworker out of frame. I like the vantage point here and the gesture.

Guy waiting at Porta Susa
The light, the shadows, the guy in his t-shirt... There's a story here for the viewer to complete.

Running for a train
This building (Porta Susa rail station) is a pot of gold for me! The light and shadows, the people, works for monochrome or color. Where's the runner going? Will he make his train?

Hotel Roma vaper
I liked the lighting here. Was setting up the frame when he exhaled a huge puff of vape "smoke." Right place right time!

Young explorer
My bonus granddaughter (my wife's granddaughter). I like hanging out of her and her brother's sphere of attention and get them being themselves. Kids these days are so camera-ready with fake smiles... I also usually just keep the camera on one of my legs, with the monitor tilted out, so they don't even know I'm making photos of them.

Palazzo Reale in the mist
I love making photos in the mist/fog, and Torino gets a lot of it due to its geography. I don't follow many rules of photography, but one I do tend to follow is to only include odd numbers of people in the frame. I stood here for probably 10 minutes making dozens of photos with people in the frame, but this, for me, was the best. Love the hat!

University bar
I was at a bar across the street from these people with an 85mm lens. Inches from me is a clear plastic sheet used to weather-proof the outside seating at the bar I was at. I liked the effect.

Old couple
Definitely seeds for a story here. I chose sepia tone here for a nostalgic look. While at one level it's a photo of a sweet old couple. But it has elements of italian culture that stick out to me. A charming one is the way older men walk with hands behind their back. They are usually just clasped together--but this guy is using a rosary. One I don't like is how, at least in this frame, the guy seems oblivious to the fact that he has pushed his wife half off the path. Of course, this could be for the few steps I recorded. But men, especially of his era, don't see women as being worthy of much attention. But I like how the woman is looking off to the right--following the course of the river, which has its own metaphorical significance (all seen after the fact...

Man-spreading at the bus stop
A quick photo while on the bus. I liked how the woman in the ad seems to be giving the guy taking up all three spots on the bench a scornful look.

Yellow tram doors
Starting to do more with color. Low morning sun. on yellow doors--a classic combination! The woman stepping out is a gift.

Superga over the Po
I'm a bit obsessed with the Basilica of Superga (up on the hill). I have probably 100 photos from this spot (a bridge over the river).

Light poles
No idea what compelled me to make this photo--maybe the play with relative perspectives? I don't worry about the why when I see something I need to photograph. I often think about it later, but I don't try too hard. I analyzed data from marketing research studies for a living, so I can make up a story to fit anything. But with my photography, I don't want to force a story. I'm okay not knowing why I felt the need to make my photos.

Untitled
No title so you can just appreciate (or not) the image for itself. It's looking up a wall of a building--the upside down Y is a drain pipe. I make a photo of this spot with every new lens I buy--not sure which one I used for this but it was a manual one not recognized by Lightroom... These geometric scenes always grab me.

Porta Susa lounge
I love this place. The design, the soft light--it's caused by the thousands of little photo-voltaic cells in the glass skin of the building.

Porta Susa bridge
Loved the rd here. I made some with people, but no one was wearing red, so they didn't fit.

Web of cables
I try to remember to look up when I'm out making photos. Of course, I'm at a bar, enjoying my end-of-walk cappuccino. I looked up and saw thos the condensation trail of the jet was intersecting the cables for the tram. Then the bird flew into the frame...

Green hose
This is one where I was the scene, liked it, but passed by thinking it was too weird to make a photo of. But I've been trying to ignore those negative thoughts. So, I stopped and went back to make this. I think my initial "like" was the red/green against the grey/black. But I also liked how it lookes like the hose is trying to escape from behind the iron fence.

What is it?
If you saw this on my website, you probably know what it is. I was really in the right place at the right time. I like the illusion it provides me--and I know what it is, but it fools me every time!

Motion
Playing with motion. Driving (my wife, not me) past a bunch of trees planted in straight rows. Long lens, long exposure.

Doors
I see this every day i exit the elevator in my building. This time, there was a blue SUV parked on the street just outside the main door to the building. I liked the colors and the wavy pattern on the doors.

Bike
I try to remember to look down, too, on my walks. This is one of those rental bikes at the bottom of the Po. Kids these days... 🙂

Grey door in beige wall
The colors just struck me. I'm really just starting to make photos in color. I set my monitor and viewfinder to B/W, but can easily switch to color. Don't remember if I switched it for this or just framed for the composition, knowing the colors would work--at least for me.
